Rebel Women's Golf Begins NCAA Play

GAINESVILLE, Fla. The Ole Miss women’s golf team shot a 307 in the first round of the NCAA East Regional here Thursday at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.  The Rebels are tied for 16^th heading into the second round.

“Today was not our best scoring round, but we came away from the round with a lot of positives for tomorrow,” head coach Michele Drinkard said.  “There is no way to simulate in practice the rush you feel from playing in a NCAA tournament, and as players you can only grow and prepare for the next round.  We look forward to tomorrow’s challenge.”

Senior Dori Carter led the Rebels, shooting a 75. Freshman Haley Millsap and junior Sara Grantham carded 76, sophomore Jillian Brodd posted an 80, and freshman Ashley Lance finished with an 81.

East Carolina had two players shoot 68 to lead the individual field and pace the Pirates to a first round lead of 283, one ahead of Alabama (284).  Vanderbilt shot 286, Denver fired a 287, and Virginia carded a 290 to round out the top five teams.
