MEET THE PRESS: Jevan Snead 06.10
6/10/2009 | Football
Ole Miss quarterback Jevan Snead fielded questions from media members Thursday and the following is a transcript. A preseason All-America honoree, Snead is entering his junior season and second as the Rebels' starter behind center.
On his 2010 draft projections...
“I try not to put too much into it. It’s hard not to think about it, but right now I’m really just trying to focus on getting ready for the season.”
On media attention...
“I did do a fishing show (with CSS), and it was fun. I didn’t catch too many though. I guess it’s good to get a little bit of attention, to get the spotlight on our program and get our name out there. Personally, I’m not one to go out and look for anything like that.”
On the national media’s storyline in his interviews...
“(CSS) just came down to do some off-field stuff, what I do for fun. Since I transferred from
On summer time for a quarterback...
“I’ve been hanging out by the pool a lot trying to get that pool basketball in. No, but I’ve really been doing strength and conditioning, little bit of running, a lot of lifting trying to build my arm up. I’m slowly trying to get back in shape with my arm, not trying to jump into it right off the bat. Coach Austin talked to a few guys and got a really good program for my arm, so it won’t get tired or anything like that. I’m just working on that and hoping to start up some 7-on-7 or pass cut or whatever.”
On throwing with receivers...
“Not a whole lot. (Coach Austin) wants me to go through this program and gradually build my arm up right now so that’s what I’m doing.”
On learning more of playbook and new stuff throughout summer...
“Right now I’m just getting into things. For the first couple of weeks, I’m just focusing on school, getting back in routine, lifting and everything like that. I’m about to start really diving into the playbook and watching a lot of film coming up soon.”
On the offensive line...
“I wasn’t really sure (about the offensive line) going into spring. I was just going to see how things went, but I think they had a great spring. I couldn’t ask them to do anymore. They really came along and grew throughout the spring as it went on, and I’m sure they’ll continue to grow throughout the summer.”
On enjoying summer and downtime...
“I enjoy some downtime, definitely. I’m still in the grind right now, just going to workouts and everything. There is not a whole lot of downtime, but you get some time in the afternoons to try to play a little golf here and there. I’m awful by the way. It’s nice getting a way for a little bit, but I’m definitely looking forward to starting up two-a-days and starting the season. I’m not counting the days yet, but when it gets a little closer I will be.”
