6/4/2009 | Football

OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss' Jevan Snead was named the 20th-best player in college football in this week's edition of The Sporting News.

TSN writer Matt Hayes noted that Snead's "first season as a starter was remarkable, especially considering he sat out 2007 after transferring from Texas."

Snead was the seventh of eight SEC players on the preseason list, including No. 1 choice Tim Tebow of Florida.

A junior from Stephenville, Texas, Snead was recently selected as a Preseason All-American Honorable Mention and a 2009 Heisman Trophy candidate by NationalChamps.net. His first season with the Rebels saw him finish second in the SEC in TD passes (26) and third in passing average (212.5 ypg) and pass efficiency (145.5).
