OXFORD, Miss. - Former Ole Miss men's tennis player Devin Britton has been named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Collegiate All-Star Team as announced by the organization Wednesday.
The ITA Collegiate All-Star Team dates back to 1984 and includes the nation's top-ranked men's and women's tennis players from the season-ending ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings at the NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and NJCAA levels, as well as champions from the previous season's ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships and NCAA Championships.
Britton, a native of Jackson, Miss., became the youngest player and just the third freshman to win the NCAA Singles Championship this past May. He also became the first Rebel freshman in men's tennis history to earn All-America honors.
His NCAA Singles title concluded another outstanding campaign by the Rebels, who won the overall SEC Championship, the SEC Tournament Championship, advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight and ended the year ranked No. 4 nationally.
Britton, who recently announced his decision to go pro, became the sixth Rebel to be named to the ITA Collegiate All-Star team, joining 1995 NCAA Doubles Champions Mahesh Bhupathi and Ali Hamadeh, two-time All-American Sebastien DeChaunac (1998), and 2008 NCAA Doubles Finalists Jonas Berg and Erling Tveit.
The 2009 ITA Collegiate All-Star Team will be honored in August during Arthur Ashe Kids' Day at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.
Britton, who reached the semifinals at Junior Wimbledon last week, is currently in Croatia with the U.S. Davis Cup Team as one of two practice partners.
