Jonathan Randolph Takes Lead At Carpet Capital

DALTON, Ga. -- Junior Jonathan Randolph led the Ole Miss men's golf team with a 4-under 68, including seven birdies, in the first round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate Friday, at The Farm. Randolph holds a one shot lead over Auburn's John Stembridge.
It seems Randolph has picked up where he left off this summer when he won the Mississippi State Amateur and reached match play at the U.S. Amateur. The Brandon native started his round with a bogey on No. 10. After a par on 11, he birdied the next four holes to go 3-under. Randolph had it to 5-under through 15, but a bogey on 16 left him at 4-under for the day.
"Jonathan had a very good day. He made seven birdies on a very tough golf course," head coach Ernest Ross said. "The rest of our team didn't play well. I know we have a young team, but we are much better than we showed. We will get better through practice and better mental skills."
The rest of the team shot a combined +20 for a team total of 302, which has the Rebels in last place heading into Saturday's second round.
Alabama leads the field with a first round 289. Clemson, South Carolina and Tennessee are tied for second at 290.
