9:48 pm: Ole Miss wins 52-6! Lots of Rebel players get in on the action in the last few minutes of the game. Stay tuned to OleMissSports.com for complete post-game coverage - article, stats, quotes and more.
9:37 pm: Freshman LB D.T. Shackelford caps his impressive Rebel home debut by taking an interception 58 yards down the right side of the field for a touchdown, his first career INT and TD. Shackelford also has a pair of fumble recoveries tonight. After Bryson Rose's PAT, the score is now Ole Miss 52, SELA 6. There is 4:50 remaining in the game.
9:34 pm: Some other SEC night game updates: LSU and South Carolina won non-league contests. Mississippi State was victorious at Vanderbilt by a 15-3 score. Georgia now leads Arkansas 42-35 in the 3rd quarter and Auburn trails West Virginia 21-20 at halftime.
9:30 pm: Kent Austin's Rebel offense continues to set records. Ole Miss has now scored 45 or more points in four straight games for the first time in school history!
9:29 pm: Freshman wideout Jesse Grandy takes an end-around 46 yards, racing through the Lion defense for paydirt and scoring his first career TD. Ole Miss leads 45-6 with 8:35 left in the contest.
9:26 pm: Ole Miss looks to have this game in the bag, but Georgia and Arkansas are in the midst of a barn-burner in Fayetteville. With 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, the Hogs lead the Dogs 35-34.
9:23 pm: After the turnover, Ole Miss' defense keeps the Lions out of the endzone, but SELA's Jeff Turner converts a 32-yard field goal to make the score Ole Miss 38, Southeastern Louisiana 6. We're down to 9:24 remaining in the game.
9:18 pm: The Rebel defense holds and forces a SELA punt, but Marshay Green fumbles on the return and the Lions take over at the Rebel 15 yard line.
9:07 pm: 3rd quarter comes to a close. Ole Miss leads 38-3 and redshirt-freshman Nathan Stanley has checked in at QB in place of Snead with the Rebs holding the sizeable lead.
9:00 pm: Freshman wideout Pat Patterson nabs his first career touchdown on a beautiful streak down the sideline and diving catch of a Snead pass for the 29-yard connection. Patterson also had his first career catch in the first half. Shene added another PAT to put the Rebels up 38-3. 3rd quarter almost over.
8:56 pm: Don't forget to send in any questions you may have to webchat@olemiss.edu. The weather has held off for nearly three full quarters now. It's actually very pleasant outside.
8:55 pm: Southeastern puts together a decent drive, but after getting a first down past midfield, Marshay Green forces a fumble that is picked up by D.T. Shackelford, his second fumble recovery of the game. After further review, the play stands. Ole Miss ball at midfield.
8:47 pm: On that last Rebel drive, Brandon Bolden topped 100 yards (107 as of now) for the second time in the last 3 games and the second time in his career. Bolden had 101 yards in the Cotton Bowl as a rookie last season.
8:43 pm: Cordera Eason slices his way through the Lion defense for an 8-yard TD run to complete an impressive drive for Ole Miss, which included a 20-yard connection from Snead to Hodge where Hodge made several nifty moves to put the Rebels in scoring position. Shene added the PAT to give Ole Miss a 31-3 edge. 6:33 remaining in the 3rd quarter.
8:35 pm: Score updates from around the SEC: LSU leads UL-Lafayette 24-3 in the 4th, Mississippi State 9-3 over Vanderbilt in the 4th, South Carolina on top of FAU 38-16 in the 4th, West Virginia all over Auburn 21-10 in the 1st, and Georgia leads Arkansas 27-21 at halftime.
8:31 pm: Southeastern opens the 2nd half with an impressive drive off their kickoff return, highlighted by a 57-yard pass play from Brian Babin to Andre Cryer. The Lions settle for a 28-yard field goal by Jeff Turner to get on the scoreboard. Score is Ole Miss 24, Southeastern La. 3.
8:06 pm: Halftime: Ole Miss 24, Southeastern Louisiana 0.
8:03 pm: A couple of notes on that last Rebel touchdown: Jevan Snead extended his school record streak to eight straight games with at least 2 TDs. He also now has 11 straight games with at least one touchdown as he closes in on Eli Manning's school record of 16. Shay Hodge collected his 15th career TD reception, which ties him with Mike Wallace for third on the Ole Miss all-time list.
8:01 pm: The Ole Miss "O" eats up chunks at a time on this close-of-the-half drive and Snead tosses a 4-yard TD pass on a fade in the end zone to Shay Hodge. Shene adds the PAT and Ole Miss leads 24-0 with 1:25 left until halftime.
7:56 pm: Snead is intercepted by Lion defender Robert Alford, but Alford is called for pass interference and the Rebs keep the ball. Unfortunately for Alford, the interception is negated but he still got blown up by Dexter McCluster's perfect form tackle.
7:49 pm: The Rebels and Lions have traded possessions a couple of times here as we have 5 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. Not much going on right now, to be honest.
7:42 pm: For anyone who's been in a college football cave today, there have been a couple of interesting upsets on the gridiron. Unranked Washington knocked off No. 3 USC 16-13 and unranked Oregon upended No. 18 Utah 31-24.
7:37 pm: Ole Miss tacks on 3 more points with a Joshua Shene 42-yard field goal. Rebs lead 17-0 with 10:36 left in the first half.
7:30 pm: After forcing Southeastern to punt, Ole Miss takes its first play of the new drive for a 35-yard gain on a screen pass from Snead to McCluster to the right. McCluster is very fast sprinting down the sideline, but gets tripped up by a Lion defender.
7:25 pm: The sun has completely set now. The new turf flooded by lights looks incredible! No precipitation to speak of yet.
7:23 pm: Jevan Snead tosses a 5-yard touchdown pass to Andy Hartmann out of the backfield, the fullback's first career TD catch. Shene adds the PAT and the Rebs lead 14-0 with 14:55 left in the 1st half.
7:19 pm: First quarter ends. Ole Miss leads 7-0 and is threatening to score again. When the 2nd quarter begins, it will be 2nd down with 3 yards to go from the SELA 5 yard line.
7:17 pm: Southeastern fumbles, caused by DE Marcus Tillman, and the officials rule that Ole Miss LB D.T. Shackelford recovers at the SELA 31. The play is reviewed and confirmed. Ole Miss begins a short drive this time.
7:13 pm: Ole Miss stalls on offense again. This time Justin Sparks gets off a nice punts and pins the Lions inside the 20 at the 14. Rebs still lead 7-0 as the last minute of the 1st quarter ticks down.
7:01 pm: With the Lions driving, Cassius Vaughn makes an incredible leaping pick at the Rebel 5-yard line to put the ball back in the hands of the Ole Miss offense.
7:00 pm: A weather update: the rain is still holding off, Even though the cloud cover is near 100 percent, it's still dry for now. We'll let you know if that changes.
6:56 pm: The Ole Miss drive stalls and Justin Sparks' punt travels just 11 yards off the side of his foot. Southeastern starts its drive across midfield at the Ole Miss 47.
6:52 pm: A crazy couple of plays here in the middle of the 1st quarter. Marshay Green muffed a punt return and the ball was recovered by the Lions. On Southeastern's first play of the new drive, the receiver fumbles and the Rebels recover. Ole Miss is now marching down the field again.
6:50 pm: We have a question from Annaleese: "Whose head do the Rebels rub before the game?" The answer: Chucky Mullins, a player fondly remembered by the Rebel nation after he was paralyzed in a game and later passed away during his Ole Miss career. The Chucky Mullins Courage Award is given every year to a senior Rebel defensive player who displays extraordinary commitment and courage.
6:43 pm: Ole Miss' opening drive is capped by an Enrique Davis 2-yard run on a toss play around the left side. Joshua Shene is true on the PAT to give the Rebels an early 7-0 lead. 11:13 left in the 1st quarter.
6:41 pm: Solid drive so far for Ole Miss, and Brandon Bolden rips off a huge 44-yard run where he sprints by a couple of SELA defenders, stiff arms one, and sprints down the sideline to the 2 yard line.
6:35 pm: Southeastern won the coin toss (performed by former UM coach Billy Brewer) and deferred to the second half. Ole Miss will receive the opening kick. Rebel team captains today are Kendrick Lewis, Patrick Trahan, John Jerry and Marcus Tillman. Are you ready?!
6:33 pm: Here come the Rebels! Players storm onto the new turf for the first home game of 2009. Again, Ole Miss is wearing navy jerseys with grey pants.
6:27 pm: Nice rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner by the Ole Miss men's glee club. Right now, the rain is holding off, but the dark clouds are hovering ominously over Hemingway Field.
6:16 pm: Now here comes the University's freshman class sprinting through the field for the "Rebel Run." There are some excited young people out there!
6:14 pm: Marching onto the field in full regalia is the Pride of the South band, looking and sounding good in their Red and Blue.
6:10 pm: The weather in Oxford today is pretty dreary, but the atmosphere on campus is anything but. The Grove was full all day, probably the biggest tailgating crowd in Oxford for a non-SEC game in a long time. We're about 30 minutes from kickoff, and the stands are filling up fast. Folks must be taking to heart Coach Nutt's request to fill the stands early.
5:44 pm: The Rebels have made their way out on the field for warm-ups. They are donned in navy jerseys with grey pants this evening.
5:32 pm: We're about an hour from kickoff here at the home opener for the nation's No. 5-ranked Ole Miss Rebels! The new field turf looks spectacular, as you can see in the photo above.
