Randolph's 64 Paces Rebels

FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Ole Miss men's golfer Jonathan Randolph fired a career-best 7-under 64 in the first round of the Mason Rudolph Championship Friday at the Legends Club to pace the Rebels to a 275 and take the individual lead for the second time in as many tournaments.
The 275 ties for the third lowest single round in Ole Miss history and puts the Rebels in a tie for third, three back of first-round leader Arkansas State (272), at the Par-71, 7,100-yard course. South Carolina, ranked No. 10, shot 274 and the Rebels are tied with third-ranked Georgia Tech at 275.
Randolph, ranked No. 9 in the Golfweek rankings, made seven birdies and no bogeys on the day to take the lead. He leads seven players by three strokes. The Brandon native also held the lead after the first round at the Carpet Capital Collegiate, to open the season.
Sophomore Billy Brozovich of Greenville had a career day as well, carding a 3-under 68 and is tied for ninth. He also did not post any bogeys, and birdied three of his last six for his career best.
Fellow sophomore Joe David finished with a 2-under 69 and is tied for 15th. He carded five birdies. Rounding out the Rebel scoring, freshman Tom Brown posted a 74.
"We had a very good day," head coach Ernest Ross said. "We are proud of Jonathan and Billy who both had college career-best rounds and bogey-free rounds. Joe played a very solid round. I was especially impressed with his mental composure and patience.
"We have worked hard to prepare, and we had a positive practice session on the range and putting green after the round today. I give our players credit for a strong desire to improve."
