Preseason Report 09.04: Rebels Work In Stadium

9/4/2009 | Football

OXFORD, Miss. -- For the first time this preseason, Ole Miss practiced inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium Friday as the season opener draws just two days away.

The Rebels held a light 90-minute workout in shells and shorts on the newly-installed FieldTurf.

"It was our first day in the turf, and it's just wonderful," said Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt. "We're real excited about it. It brings a lot of energy, and the field is just beautiful.

"We had a good concentrated practice today. Overall, we've had a good camp, and we're just ready to play."

Senior tight end Gerald Harris was among the players taking part in drills, and Nutt is optimistic about his availability for Memphis.

"He is getting better," Nutt said. "Hopefully he'll be ready to go Sunday by gametime. Everybody else is good."

Ole Miss will have another walk-thru Saturday morning before busing to Memphis. Sunday's encounter with the Tigers is set for a 2:36 pm CT kickoff and will be televised nationally on ESPN.
