Hardy, Shene Competing in East-West Shrine Game

OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss' Greg Hardy and Joshua Shene will be competing in the 85th annual East-West Shrine Game to be held Jan. 23 at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando and televised live on ESPN2.
The East-West Shrine Game is the longest-running college all-star football game in the country and features some of the highest-rated players in the projected NFL draft ranking. In April 2009, 90 percent of players from the 84th East-West Shrine Game (played on Jan. 17, 2009) were either drafted or signed as free agents by NFL clubs. A total of 307 East-West Shrine Game alumni were on 2009 NFL opening-day rosters.
While the teams are divided by East and West, the players come together for the beneficiary of the event, Shriners Hospitals for Children, an international pediatric specialty health care system.
Shriners Hospitals for Children is a system of 22 hospitals dedicated to providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs. Children up to age 18 with orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care and receive all services in a family-centered environment, without financial obligation to patients or their families.
A defensive end from Millington, Tenn., Hardy earned All-America distinction in 2007 and 2008 and garnered Freshman All-America accolades in 2006. He recorded 39.0 career TFLs and 26.5 sacks, including an SEC-best 10.0 in 2007.
As a kicker, Shene ranks second on the Ole Miss career scoring list with 310 points and is only the second Rebel all-time to top the team in scoring all four years. The Oklahoma City native received First Team All-SEC distinction in 2008, when he led the league in FG pct. (17-of-21, 81.0 pct.) and PATs (52-of-52, 1.000 pct.).
Other Rebels participating in upcoming all-star games include Shay Hodge, John Jerry and Dexter McCluster at the Senior Bowl and Gerald Harris at the Texas vs. The Nation Game.
