Molly Alvey Named Head Coach At Houston
1/27/2010 | Volleyball
"It's a bittersweet day for Ole Miss volleyball because we're losing a great coach in Molly, but we understand that greater things call her and she will be a phenomenal head coach in the next phase of her career," said Rebel head coach Joe Getzin. "We know she will bring the same excitement and energy to Houston that she brought to Ole Miss, and we wish her the best in her future endeavors.
"It also says a lot about Ole Miss and what we are doing here that people are looking at our program as a successful program and a place where they can come to find up-and-coming coaches who can bring success to their programs, as well."
Alvey joined the Rebel coaching staff in 2005 as an assistant coach and was promoted to the position of Associate Head Coach following the 2007 season. She also served as the program's recruiting coordinator and worked with the setters.
In her five seasons with the Rebels, Alvey helped lead Ole Miss to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances in 2006 and 2007. The 2006 NCAA Tournament berth was the first in program history as Ole Miss posted a 19-11 record and was 10-10 in Southeastern Conference play.
The Rebels followed that up with a 25-9 mark in 2007 and a second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Ole Miss posted a 14-6 record in Southeastern Conference play that year, the most wins in league play in program history.
Alvey was instrumental in the development of two-time All-SEC setter Rachel Kieckhaefer (2007, 2008) and also helped coach Kieckhaefer to All-Region Honorable Mention honors in 2007. In Alvey's time with the Ole Miss staff, the Rebels saw three other players garner All-SEC recognition with the selection of Jaclyn Toohey in 2006 and All-SEC Freshman Team selections Jackie Jones (2006) and Regina Thomas (2007).
In 2009, Alvey also was a key part of signing the 23rd-ranked recruiting class for Ole Miss.
Prior to joining the Rebel coaching staff, Alvey spent a season as the head coach at Southern Indiana, where she led the Screaming Eagles to a 24-7 record and the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship with a 15-1 mark in league play. She also coached Southern Indiana to the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament and coached All-America selection Laura Ellerbusch.
Alvey has also spent three seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Temple.
