1/28/2010 | Women's Tennis

OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 20 nationally ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team heads to Clemson, South Carolina this weekend for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend Saturday and Sunday at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center. The Kick-Off Weekend serves as the first and second rounds of the ITA National Team Indoor, played at 16 different sites around the nation.

Ole Miss will face No. 32 ranked Illinois in the first round Saturday at 8 am. CT. Clemson, ranked No. 14, and Texas A&M, ranked No. 37, will meet in the other match on Saturday. The winner of both matches will play Sunday at 1 p.m. CT for the right to advance to the National Team Indoor Final 16 in Madison, Wisc. Feb. 12-15. The losers will meet at 8 a.m. CT.

The Rebels are coming off a 7-0 sweep of Southern Miss in their season opener on Tuesday. They are led by the No. 7 ranked doubles tandem of Kristi Boxx and Karen Nijssen. Boxx is also ranked No. 40 in singles.

"We are really excited about this weekend," head coach Mark Beyers said. "Illinois will be a challenge. They played well in two tough 4-3 losses to No. 11 Tennessee and No. 26 Virginia. Obviously they can play, and they play well indoors. We are going to have to step our games a level, but I am confident we can do that."

The Fighting Illini (0-2) is led by freshman Rachael White, who is ranked No. 33 in singles.

Live scoring of both matches will be available by going to www.OleMissSports.com and clicking on the link in the calendar box.
