Rebel Track And Field To Compete At Arkansas

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss track and field team will take part in its second indoor meet of the season Friday when the Rebels travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to take part in the Arkansas Invitational from the Randal Tyson Track Center.
Field events are slated to begin at noon with the women's shot put and high jump, while running events will begin at 3:35 p.m. with the women's 400 meters.
Guided by head coach Joe Walker, who is in 28th season at Ole Miss, the Rebels return three All-Americans and two SEC champions from last season's squad. The roster also features 27 newcomers.
"We are excited to get back into competition and see how well our athletes have trained over the break and on their own," Walker said. "Competing against Arkansas and Oklahoma should prove to be a great early test for us, and it's especially good that this will also be the site for this year's SEC and NCAA meets."
Friday's meet will actually be the second meet of the season Ole Miss has competed in. The Rebels opened the season Dec. 5 in Jonesboro, Ark., at the Arkansas State Kickoff Classic. In that meet, Ole Miss won nine individual titles and posted one NCAA provisional mark.
Junior LaJada Baldwin captured the individual title in the 55 meters with a time of 7.02, while sophomore Kristin Bridges took claimed the individual title in the 200 meters with a mark of 25.23. Sofie Persson won the 400 meters by posting the fifth-fastest time in school history with a mark of 55.76.
In field events, freshman Neal Tisher posted a height of 12-00.00 in the pole vault and a seventh place finish to tie for the school record in the event. Junior Rachel Jenkins won the long jump with a distance of 19-07.00, while senior Davina Orieukwu won the shot put with an NCAA provisional mark of 50-00.00.
Junior Juliana Smith captured the crown in the weight throw with a distance of 56-10.00, while freshman Jazmin Miller placed second and recorded the fifth-best mark in school history a distance of 54-11.50.
On the men's side, freshman Mike Granger recorded the fifth-fastest time in school history in the 55 meters with a time of 6.29 en route to a second place finish. Junior Lee Ellis Moore finished in second place in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.02.
Barnabas Kirui won the mile run with a new course record time of 4:08.59.
Sophomore Brian Knight won the high jump with a height of 6-10.75, while fellow sophomore Caleb Lee claimed the long jump with a distance of 24-01.50.
