Freshman Natalie Nimmo blogs about the start of her college career and the Rebels' game against the National Pro Fastpitch All-Star team.
Hey Rebel Fans!
After a month of team practice, we are back to individuals. We started team practice a little earlier this year in preparation for our game against the National Fast Pitch All-Star team on there "Back To School - College Tour". Although we fell to them 15-0 in 5 innings, it was an amazing experience. For me, it was one of the best experiences I've had in my softball career. Not too many people can say they've played against some of the greatest players this sport has ever seen such as Cat Osterman, Vicky Galindo, Charlotte Morgan, Kelly Kretschman and Francesca Enea. There were All-Americans at every position. I can say with certainty that the score of the game does not reflect how hard we have been working as a team this fall. I feel like we make improvements every day we step out on the dirt and when we hit the weight room.
Being a freshman, I have not only being trying to step in and fill a big hole at shortstop that Lauren Grill left for me, but I've also been having to make the adjustment to the college life as a whole. You really don't get what it's like till you get here, but it's so much different than being in the same house as your parents. I have been blessed with 3 other great freshmen and a great group of upper classman to help us little ones out. It's been such a great experience so far. I am even getting to play with some former high school teammates: Brittany Barnhill and Erinn Jayjohn. I never thought that the three of us would end up playing with each other again.
Over the past week we have done two community service projects. This past Saturday, we got to help out at the Oxford Animal Shelter. It was a lot of fun getting to help out around the shelter. This past Monday, the Rebels got to play a game against residents of the North Mississippi Regional Center. It was such a great experience to be able to be a part of it and to see the smiles that we put on all of their faces. I can say that on behalf of all the Rebels that being out on the field with them touched all of our hearts. It's something that our team will never forget. Come out in the spring and support us!
Till then HOTTY TODDY!
