Women's Tennis Rolls On At ITA Southern Regionals

BIRIMINGHAM, Ala. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team placed two doubles teams in the semifinals and three players in the singles quarterfinals here Saturday at the ITA Southern Regionals at the Samford Tennis Center.
The Rebels went 5-0 against players from SEC Western Division rivals Alabama and Auburn on Saturday as they march towards a repeat of last year's dominance at the ITA Regionals.
Top-seeded Kristi Boxx downed Auburn's Emily Newton 6-3, 6-1 to move into the quarterfinals, where she will face eighth-seeded Whitney Wolf of LSU. Connor Vogel topped Kurteva of Auburn 6-0, 6-4 and will meet Mariam Kurdadze of Tulane in the final eight. Laura van de Stroet handed Courtney McClane (Alabama) a 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 loss to set up a quarterfinal match against McClane's teammate, Mary Anne McFarlane.
In doubles, the Rebels are guaranteed to have a finalist as second-seeded Boxx and Abby Guthrie will meet third-seeded Vogel and Gabby Rangel in the semifinals Sunday at 9 a.m.
Boxx and Guthrie downed Hila Elster and Liz Hamlin of Tulane 8-2 then beat Taylor Lindsey and Alex Clay of Alabama 8-3. Vogel and Gabby Rangel dominated Tiffany Welcher and Merritt Emery of Alabama 8-1 and then defeated Kurdadze and Levy of Tulane 8-6. The Rebels' third team of van de Stroet and freshman Vivian Vlaar won their third round match 8-4 over Tulane's Katie Cecil and Lindsay Dvorak before falling to Alabama's McFarlane and Antonio Foehse, 8-1.
The winner of the singles and doubles earns a bid to the ITA National Indoor in November to be held at Flushing Meadows in New York.
