OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's basketball team will open practice for the 2010-11 season Tuesday afternoon.
The Rebels return six players from its 2009-10 WNIT squad and will welcome eight newcomers to the roster this season.
"We are small in number but big in heart. Only having two players back this season that have playing experience, senior Kayla Melson and junior Nikki Byrd, presents a challenge in itself," fourth-year head coach Renee Ladner said. "However, our newcomers are young but talented. Our returnees are anxious to see playing time. Hopefully, the combination of youth and experience will complement each other nicely."
Newcomers for this season include Valencia McFarland, Kenyotta Jenkins, Pa'Sonna Hope, Shae Nelson, Jasmine Trotter, Maggie McFerrin, Kelsey Nutt and Jasmine Curtis.
This year under a new NCAA rule, teams can start practice 40 days before their first game. They still are allowed only 30 practices, the same number they were allowed under the old system.
Ole Miss will open the 2010-11 season with an exhibition game on November 4 at 7 p.m. versus the University of West Georgia. The Rebels will open the regular season at home November 12-13 hosting the Inn at Ole Miss Classic which will feature Ole Miss, Jackson State, SEMO and Sam Houston State.
