LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Ole Miss junior Kristi Boxx posted a big win in singles and teamed with Abby Guthrie for a victory in doubles on day one of the Riviera ITA All-American Championships at the Riviera Country Club Thursday.
Boxx, ranked No. 20 in the nation, rallied to knock off fifth-ranked Allie Will of Florida (last year's SEC Freshman of the Year) in three close sets. After dropping the first set 6-4, the All-American won the second and third sets 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the second round, where she will face either Tennessee's Rosalia Alda or SMU's Marta Lesniak.
Earlier in the day, Boxx and Guthrie defeated Zara Harutyunyan and Angelina Jogasuria of Akron 8-6 in the first round of doubles. The 10th-ranked duo will face the fourth-ranked, Whitney Taney and Rika Tatsuno of Michigan in the second round.
