Nov. 22, 2010
EL PASO, Texas - Ole Miss senior golfer Jonathan Randolph got off to a great start in the Western Refining College All-America Classic Monday shooting a 7-under 135, and is just two back of the leader heading into Tuesday's final round.
The Brandon, Miss., native shot a 6-under 65 in the first round and a 1-under 70 in the second round at the par-71, 6,864 yard El Paso Country Club. Randolph trails the reigning Division III National Champion, Tain Lee, who finished at 9-under, and Alex Ching of San Diego, who came in at 8-under.
The All-American carded 10 birdies on the day, and played bogey-free in the first round.
Georgia Tech's J.T. Griffin is in fourth at 6-under, and Gregor Main of UCLA rounds out the top five at 5-under.
Thirty-one of the nation's premier collegiate golfers are competing in the 36th edition of the tournament.
The field includes seven of the top 11 amateur golfers in the world, according to the R&A World Amateur Golf Rankings. Randolph is among six golfers representing the SEC in the field.
Randolph is trying to become the first Rebel to win this prestigious event. Former All-American Darren Cole (1984) finished second to 1997 PGA Champion Davis Love III.
