Rebel Track Sets Two School Records Saturday

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Ole Miss distance runner Barnabas Kirui set a new school record in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:08.17 en route to a first place finish Saturday afternoon in the SEC/Big 12/Conference USA Challenge from the Giliam Indoor Track Stadium.

Women's distance runner Logan Waites set a new school record of her own in the 3000 with a time of 9:57.72 on her way to a fifth place finish.

The Big 12 combination of Texas A&M, Texas and Texas Tech scored 309.5 points on the men's side and 290 on the women's for the pair of titles. The SEC, which consisted of Alabama, Ole Miss and Tennessee, scored 143.5 points in the men's meet and 163 on the women's side to place second in both. Conference USA, with Houston, Rice and UTEP, totaled 116 men's points and 130 women's points.

Sophomore sprinter Kristin Bridges turned in a seventh place finish in the 60 meters with a time of 7.58 before taking 11th in the 200 meters with a mark of 24.32.

Junior LaJada Baldwin took third in the 400 meters with a time of 55.33 on her way to a third place finish. Senior Jasmine Dacus finished in seventh in the event with her time of 55.78, marking the fifth-fastest mark in school history. Freshman Sofia Hellberg-Jonson placed eighth with a time of 55.88.

Middle distance runner Sofie Persson placed second in the 800 meters with an NCAA provisional mark of 2:07.77. The Ole Miss 4x400 meter relay team of Dacus, Persson, Bridges and Baldwin posted a fifth place finish with a time of 3:40.76.

In field events, junior Rachel Jenkins took fourth in the long jump with a distance of 19-01.50, while freshman Brittney Bozeman placed sixth with a distance of 18-03.75. Fellow freshman Marci Morman was next in eighth place with her leap of 18-03.00. Sophomore Aria Gaines finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 38-04.25.

Juliana Smith picked up an NCAA provisional mark in the weight throw with a distance of 61-10.25 en route to a second place finish. Freshman Jazmin Miller posted the third-furthest distance in school history with a mark of 56-04.00 on her way to a seventh place showing. Junior Betty Williams finished in second place in the shot put with an NCAA provisional distance of 50-06.75. It was also the second-furthest mark in school history.

On the men's side, Lee Ellis Moore placed sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 47.65, while Chad Barry took seventh in the mile run with a time of 4:16.70. The 4x400 meter relay team of Carson Blanks, Brian Knight, Matt Daniels and Moore finished in fourth place with a time of 3:13.47.

Sophomore Caleb Lee earned a fourth place finish in the long jump with a distance of 24-03.50. Freshman Ricky Robertson won the individual title in the high jump with an NCAA provisional height of 7-01.00, which also marks the third-best mark in school history. Knight took third in the high jump following his height of 6-11.00.

Freshman Morris Kersh placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 48-10.75.

Ole Miss returns to action Feb. 26-28 when the Rebels take part in the SEC Indoor Championships from Fayetteville, Ark.
