Arrangements For Bennie Abram Announced

2/22/2010 | Football

Funeral arrangements for the late Bennie Abram, 20, of Southaven, Miss., a member of the Ole Miss football team, were announced Monday.

Services for Abram, who passed away last Friday afternoon, will be held Monday, March 1, at noon at Brown Baptist Church, 980 East Stateline Road, Southaven, Miss.

Visitation is set for Sunday, February 28, from 5 - 7 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home, 2746 South Panola Street, Hernando, Miss. (662-429-9443). Flowers may be sent to Henderson Funeral Home.

Abram, who joined the football team as a safety in January, was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi by ambulance after collapsing during the first day of the team's routine conditioning. The session began early Friday morning, before classes started. About 15 minutes into the conditioning portion of the session, trainers noticed that Abram was experiencing some difficulty, began administering aid and called 911. Abram died at 12:11 p.m., several hours later.

An exercise science major, Abram was enrolled in the University of Mississippi's School of Applied Sciences.

Abram transferred from Itawamba Community College to Ole Miss last fall. He was a starting safety and Academic All-American while attending ICC.

Prior to enrolling at ICC, he was an outstanding football and basketball player at DeSoto Central High School.
