Rebel Netters To Begin Outdoor Play With Tulane

2/25/2010 | Men's Tennis

OXFORD, Miss. - After playing their first seven matches indoors, the No. 11 nationally ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team moves outside as they get set to host Tulane Saturday at 1 p.m., at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.

"We had a great indoor season," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "To be where we are without Kalle Norberg is huge. The guys are playing with a lot of confidence right now. We've been practicing outside, and we are looking forward to getting some matches in before we begin conference play next weekend."

The Rebels (6-1) haven't played since going 2-1 at the ITA National Team Indoor two weeks ago. They are led by sophomore Marcel Thiemann, who is ranked No. 66 in the nation. His brother, Chris, is undefeated at No. 6 singles and has clinched four of the Rebels' six wins this year.

Ole Miss has won five straight doubles points led by the team of Tucker Vorster and Jonas Lutjen at the top spot. The duo has won five in a row at No. 1 doubles.

Tulane returns to the courts this year after a four-year hiatus due to Hurricane Katrina. The men's tennis team, along with seven other Tulane athletic programs, suspended operations in the fall of 2005 following the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The Green Wave is 2-3 on the season with wins over Florida A&M and Centenary. They are coached by former LSU assistant coach Mark Booras, brother of former Rebel All-American Jamie Booras. The Green Wave is led by Adam Bernstein of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., who owns a 10-6 overall record.

The Rebels are a tough out at home, boasting a 71-3 record at home dating back to April 6, 2003. They went undefeated (9-0) at home last year and are 3-0 this year.

Admission to all home matches is free.
