OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team moved up to No. 18 in the latest ITA National Rankings as they get set to host Murray State Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Gillom Sports Center, prior to the men's basketball game against Alabama.
"We are excited to be moving up in the rankings," head coach Mark Beyers said. "We had a successful weekend last time out, coming very close to beating a higher ranked team on the road to advance to the National Team Indoor Final 16. We want to encourage everyone to come out and support us before going to watch the men's basketball team against Alabama (5 p.m.)."
The Rebels enter the match at 2-1. They went 1-1 at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, defeating 32-ranked Illinois 4-2 in the first match before dropping a close 4-3 decision to 14th-ranked Clemson in the final.
Sophomore Kristi Boxx picked up a big win in the loss, rallying to knock off the nation's No. 9 ranked player, Josipa Bek, in three sets. She improved to 3-0 at No. 1 singles this year.
This will be the first match of the season for Murray State. They were scheduled to play two matches last weekend in Memphis, but they were cancelled due to weather. Admission to all home matches is free.
