Women's Tennis Sweeps LSU 7-0

BATON ROUGE, La. - The No. 22 nationally-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team rebounded from a tough loss on Friday at Arkansas to sweep LSU 7-0 Sunday at Dub Robinson Stadium. The Rebels improved to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the SEC.
The Rebels took the early 1-0 lead by sweeping the doubles. Connor Vogel and Gabby Rangel dominated 8-0 at No. 2, and then the 12th-ranked duo of Kristi Boxx and Karen Nijssen won 8-3 at No. 1 to clinch the point and improve to 8-1 and 4-0 in the SEC.
Singles was close at the beginning, but then the Rebels turned it up a notch and made quick work of the Tigers, winning all first sets. Karen Nijssen cruised 6-0, 6-1 in her match to Kaitlin Burns at No. 2 singles to give the Rebels a 2-0 lead.
Sophomore Gabby Rangel topped Kylie Adamek 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 to make it 3-0, and then Abby Guthrie won a second set tiebreaker against LSU's Keri Frankenberger to finish off a 6-1, 7-6(6) win to clinch the team's fifth shutout of the year.
"It was windy today, but we executed very well," head coach Mark Beyers said. "Anytime you win in the SEC it's a good win, anytime you win on the road in the SEC, it's a great win. We are excited to be 3-1 in the SEC."
Kristi Boxx picked up her first SEC win of the year, defeating Whitney Wolf, 7-6(2), 6-2 at No.1. Laura van de Stroet downed Ebie Wilson 7-5, 6-0 at No. 5 and then the reigning SEC Player of the Week, Connor Vogel, completed the sweep, 6-3, 6-2, over Nicole Kantor.
The Rebels will head to Florida for spring break where they will take on Division II West Florida on Tuesday, March 16.
