Women's Tennis Downs West Florida 5-0

3/17/2010 | Women's Tennis

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The No. 26 nationally ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team downed Division II power West Florida 5-0 Tuesday to improve to 9-2 overall.

Since the match was being played at West Florida, the two teams played by Division II rules, which awards one point for each win in doubles and singles. The Rebels swept all three matches to take the early 1-0 lead.

In singles, Karen Nijssen and Gabby Rangel sat out, but it didn't matter. Connor Vogel dominated Paulina Ojeda 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and Laura van de Stroet cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Caitlyn Baines at No. 4 to clinch the Rebels sixth shutout of the year.

The Rebels will enjoy the rest of spring break before returning home to begin preparing for their next Southeastern Conference match against South Carolina on March 26.
