Women’s Tennis’ Emily Welker Advances to Final Four at NCAA Singles Championships

ORLANDO, Fla. – Ole Miss women's tennis' No. 67 Emily Welker defeated No. 109 Savannah Dada-Mascoll, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, to advance to the NCAA Singles Championships Semifinals on Friday morning, in Orlando, Florida.
"Making a run at the NCAA Individual Championships was one of the goals I set at the beginning of the fall," Welker said. "Representing the Rebs and making the Final Four is special, and I'm looking forward to another great battle in tomorrow's semi-final."
"Really proud of Emily for the week she's having," Coach Grant Roberts said. "Today was an incredibly tough match, and she showed tons of courage and mental toughness out there. Making the Final Four is a huge accomplishment, but our goal from the beginning has always been to bring home a title, and that hasn't changed. Looking forward to seeing her compete again tomorrow!"
Welker is the first Rebel to reach the semifinals of the NCAA Singles Championships since Arianne Hartono in 2018, who won it all that same year. She is only the third player in program history to reach the NCAA Final Four in singles, joining Hartono and four-time All-American Paloma Collantes, who accomplished the feat twice in her illustrious career.
After losing the first set in the quarterfinal matchup, 4-6, Welker never gave up, winning the next set, 6-3. In the deciding third set, Welker would go down, 3-5, but remained persistent, rattling off four straight games to take the final set and the match, 7-5.
Welker has now rounded out four NCAA Singles Tournament victories and gained status as an All-American in singles. The graduate holds a 13-1 singles record during the fall season and an 18-8 overall career record.
With the tournament down to its last four players, Welker will match up tomorrow against No. 113 Berta Passola Folch of California for a chance to advance to the NCAA Championship finals.
