Thomas Named To AP All-SEC First Team

3/16/2010 | Women's Basketball

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss senior guard and All-America candidate Bianca Thomas was selected to the 2010 All-Southeastern Conference first team by the Associated Press on Tuesday.

Thomas was named to the All-SEC first team by the league's coaches earlier this season and is also a candidate for the State Farm Wade Trophy, the John R. Wooded Award, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award and the Naismith Trophy.

A native of Henderson, Tenn., Thomas leads the SEC in scoring and ranks 10th in the nation with 20.9 points per game and is on her way to becoming just the third player in school history to average over 20.0 points per game for an entire season. She turned in 18 games this season of at least 20 points, which includes a career-high and Tad Smith Coliseum record 42 points earlier this season against LSU.

Thomas also ranks second in the SEC and 10th in the nation with 3.1 three-pointers per game and has already set the Ole Miss single season record with 95 and counting. She needs just five more three-pointers to be one of only five players in SEC history with 100 or more treys in the same season.

Ole Miss (17-14) and Thomas return to action Thursday evening at 7 p.m. when the Rebels travel to Birmingham, Ala., to take on Samford in the first round of the WNIT. The winner will advance to face the winner of Friday's Oral Roberts-Missouri State matchup in the second round at a date and time to be determined later.
