Spring Practice Report 03.30

3/31/2010 | Football

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Rebel football team held its fourth practice of the spring under picturesque skies on the practice fields adjacent to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Tuesday.

Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt was pleased with the offense production on the day, noting the Rebels did a better job of execution on the offensive end.

"We were better on offense today," Nutt said. "We didn't put the ball on the ground as much today. We didn't have any as many fumbled exchanges on handoffs."

Nutt singled out the Rebel wide receiver corps for their hard work and improvement thus far in spring drills.

"Ja-Mes Logan and Melvin Harris have made really good strides," Nutt added. "I'm really excited about that. They have been getting more reps. Jesse Grandy has been outstanding. Markeith Summers has really come back strong from his sports hernia. I really appreciate his effort. Lionel Breaux has been consistent."

One of the most watched position battles of spring has been the Rebels' quarterback derby between sophomore Nathan Stanley and freshman Raymond Cotton. The two signal callers split reps with the first-team unit on Tuesday.

"We have been doing that the last two days," Nutt said. "Right now we have just one line we feel really good about, so we have been trying to give the quarterbacks equal time behind the first line."

Nutt also praised Ole Miss' two returning tackles - Bobby Massie and Bradley Sowell - for the experience they bring to the Rebel offensive line.

"Bradley had his best day yesterday. Coach Decker has worked with him and he has gotten a lot stronger. Bobby has done a good job, too. It is a good thing when you have two tackles that have played in this league."

On Monday, a Fox Sports South camera crew visited Oxford to interview select Rebel coaches and players for some of their summer and fall programming. Learn more about their visit at OleMissSportsBlog.com.

The Rebels will continue spring drills on Thursday afternoon before holding a scrimmage inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Friday morning. Spring practices are open to the public, but fans are asked to remain in the designated area, outside the red line, and are not allowed between the practice fields. Use of cellular phones and cameras are prohibited for fans at practice.

Practice times and locations will be updated daily on OleMissSports.com and twitter.com/OleMissNow.
