Rebels Host South Carolina, Game Time Changed

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss softball team will open Southeastern Conference action on Wednesday when the Rebels welcome the South Carolina Gamecocks to Oxford for a double header at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. First pitch for game one has been moved up to a 1 p.m. start time due to expected inclement weather in the Oxford area. Game two will begin immediately following game one.

The Rebels enter conference play with a 13-8 overall record. Ole Miss posted a 2-3 mark at the Buzz Classic last weekend knocking off Mercer and Rhode Island. Senior Lauren Grill leads Ole Miss with a .476 batting average, three home runs and 16 RBI. Sophomore Corrine Doornberg paces the Rebels with 18 runs scored and ranks second on the squad with a .354 batting average. Junior transfer Brittany Barnhill leads the team with a 5-1 record and 2.66 ERA in 11 games this year. She has struck out 61 batters in 47.1 innings.

South Carolina begins conference play with a 9-9 record and posted a 1-3 record at the Easton SEC/Midwest Challenge in Tuscaloosa over the weekend. Junior Laura Mendes leads the Gamecocks with a .411 batting average and 15 RBI on the season. In the circle, sophomore Audrey Broyles paces the team with a 3-2 record and a 0.56 ERA for the year.

The Gamecocks lead Ole Miss 21-11 in the all-time series, but the Rebels have won six of the last nine contests, including a double header split last season in Columbia.
