Weekend Of Activities Surround Cellular South Grove Bowl

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss fans will get a sneak peak at the 2010 Rebel football team, honor Dexter McCluster and other former Rebels and contribute to the M-Club's scholarship fund as part of the Cellular South Grove Bowl.
On Saturday, the Celular South Grove Bowl features head coach Houston Nutt's Rebels in their annual spring intrasquad scrimmage in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Stadium gates open at noon and kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Tickets are $10 general admission, $40 for the southzone club level and free for Ole Miss students, faculty and staff. All proceeds benefit the M-Club's J.W. "Wobble" Davidson Scholarship Fund.
Tickets are available by calling 662-915-7167 or visiting the athletics ticket office in Tad Smith Coliseum 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. On gameday, tickets are available in The Grove and at the ticket office on All-American Drive, next to the Starnes Athletics Center.
Tailgating starts at 10 a.m. in The Grove with children's games. A commemorative poster and Cellular South Grove Bowl t-shirts can be purchased as well as catfish, barbecue and chicken tenders. At 10:45 a.m., Rebel football players and coaches tread the traditional Walk of Champions as they head to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
At 11 a.m., Dexter McCluster headlines a group of former players that will be celebrated on the Grove stage with a special program, hosted by CBS Sports' Tim Brando. The panel discussion, called "Path to the Draft: Ole Miss to the NFL," will honor McCluster and examine the career paths of Chris Spencer, Charlie Anderson, Jesse Mitchell and Jason Cook.
In the event of bad weather, the ceremony will be moved inside Fulton Chapel.
The soccer alumni game will kick off Cellular South Grove Bowl Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium. A large collection of former Rebels are slated to compete against the current team.
After the football game, fans can make their way to the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center to watch the 17th-ranked Rebel men's tennis team face rival Mississippi State. The match begins at 3 p.m., and admission is free.
At 10 a.m. on Saturday, Leigh Anne Tuohy, the mother of former Rebel All-American Michael Oher who inspired the Oscar-winning performance by Sandra Bullock in "The Blind Side," will accept the inaugural Legacy Award presented by the Ole Miss Women's Council for Philanthropy. The ceremony will be held in the Overby Center Auditorium and will be followed by a $100-per-plate brunch at 11:30 a.m. at The Inn at Ole Miss.
Admission to the 10 a.m. event is free, but tickets are required. Tickets to both events are available online at www.umfoundation.com/omwc/legacy. Both events are sponsored by Cellular South, and proceeds from the brunch will benefit the Women's Council.
Opening Cellular South Grove Bowl weekend festivities was the 21st annual Chucky Mullins Courage Award Banquet Thursday night in the Indoor Practice Facility, which saw Kentrell Lockett receive the honor. In addition to the revealing of the winner, attendees were addressed by past recipient and current Duke assistant coach Derek Jones, who offered his reflections on Chucky Mullins and the significance of the honor.
The Chucky Mullins Courage Award Banquet is sponsored each year by Phi Beta Sigma and Phi Kappa Psi fraternities, and proceeds assist Ole Miss students involved in serious accidents.Free parking for Saturday's football game is available in the lot on the west side of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. The lot adjacent to the Starnes Center is reserved for handicapped parking, and lots adjacent the Indoor Practice Facility are closed. Officials suggest that fans park in the nearby Mississippi Department of Transportation parking lot at the intersection of Highway 6 and Old Taylor Road.
Davidson, a three-sport star at Ole Miss and assistant football coach for 22 seasons under John Vaught, died in 1998 at the age 79. As an assistant in 1945-68, he helped coach the Rebels to 16 bowl games and six Southeastern Conference championships. He also spent 11 years as head men's tennis coach and was adviser to the M-Club for 23 years.
The fund bearing his name awards scholarships to the children of former Ole Miss letterwinners.
The Ole Miss M-Club is an honor organization for men and women who have earned a varsity letter in an NCAA-sanctioned sport sponsored by the university and have participated in a formal induction ceremony.
