Hey there everyone,
It's Saturday afternoon and we just got back from another beautiful day at SECs. We arrived at St. Simons Island, Ga., on Wednesday afternoon and had a nice relaxing dinner down by the pier followed up with an attempt at fishing (we did catch one).
Thursday was my first exposure to the Seaside Course at Sea Island, and it was quite an experience. The course is a very tight driving course with marsh and hazard's everywhere. Once you get past that problem, you have to figure out a way to attack the greens, which are relatively small and very well-guarded on all sides. We had a productive practice round which was very important, because our young team has virtually no experience at all on this course. After a good night of sleep we were ready to go take care of business in the first round Friday.
To put it lightly, we got off to a bit of a flat start as a team on the front nine. I personally, was 1-under through two holes and then by the time I was teeing off on the fifth hole, I was 2-over. Everyone fought back really hard on the back nine, and we ended up finishing under par on the back and 8-over on the day to finish in 10th place. I birdied my 16th and 17th hole to sneak in an opening round 69 and sit at tied 4th.
Saturday we got off to a much better start. Every day the wind has blown from a different direction, and it effectively makes the course play different every time we tee it up. It blew harder Saturday, and the young guys on the team stepped it up and played really well. We moved from 10th place to 6th, but we also move to only 4 shots out of 3rd. I shot 68 and I'm just one back going into the final round. It should be a very exciting finish!
