Grantham Ties For 5th At SEC Championship

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Senior Sara Grantham finished with a 2-under 211 to tie for fifth at the SEC Championship Sunday, to lead the Ole Miss women's golf team at NorthRiver Yacht Club.
Grantham shot 70-69-72 to earn her best ever finish at the SEC Championships and her second top five finish of the year.
"Sara had a great tournament this weekend," head coach Michele Drinkard said. "She hit the ball the best I have seen to date, but the best part of her game was her composure. She was in control of the process, and you could see it in her routine. When she didn't visually see the shot she backed off until she did."
The Rebels started strong in the tournament, posting an even par 284 to get in the thick of the race, but carded a 298 in the second round and a 294 in the final round to finish eighth at 876. They did however, finish ahead of top 20 teams Tennessee and Florida.
The SEC boasted seven teams in the Top 25 coming into the SEC Tournament.
"We are proud of our team and how they finished staying ahead of Tennessee and Florida. The SEC is the strongest conference from top to bottom, and it is always good to beat two teams ranked in the Top 20," Drinkard said.
Host Alabama captured the team title with an 848, beating Vanderbilt (852) by four strokes. Arkansas took third at 859, Georgia finished fourth at 860, and Auburn was fifth at 861.
Vanderbilt's Marina Alex wins the individual title in a 2-hole playoff.
The Rebels are anticipating a second consecutive trip to the NCAA Regionals. The selections will be announced on Monday, April 26.
