Kirui Posts NCAA Top Mark At LSU Alumni Gold Meet

BATON ROUGE, La. - Ole Miss distance runner Barnabas Kirui turned in the best 3000 meter steeplechase mark in the NCAA this year with a time of 8:43.72 on his way to a first place finish Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold Meet.

Freshman Mike Granger placed sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 10.34, while junior Jonathan Juin took second in the 200 meters with a mark of 20.73. Junior Lee Ellis Moore posted a seventh place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 47.11.

Sophomore Carson Blanks captured the individual crown in the 400 meter hurdles with a mark of 50.87, marking the fourth-fastest time in school history. Middle distance runner Martin Kirui took ninth in the 800 meters following a time of 1:53.95. Kirui also placed sixth in the 1500 meters with a mark of 3:54.08.

Chad Berry won the 1500 meters with his time of 3:54.53 before Riley Young followed in second place with his time of 3:56.29. The 4x400 meter relay team of Blanks, Juin, Matt Daniels and Moore took third with a time of 3:09.61.

In field events, freshman Ricky Robertson won the high jump with a height of 7-02.25. Sophomore Caleb Lee place sixth in the long jump with a distance of 24-03.00, while freshman Morris Kersh placed fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 48.10.75. Brian Knight turned in an eighth place showing in the triple jump with a mark of 44-04.25.

Senior Colin Moleton won the javelin throw with a distance of 217-10.00, while Bryce Willen finished in fifth place with a mark of 209-05.00.

On the women's side, senior Jasmine Dacus placed fourth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.49 before taking fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.44. Freshman Marci Morman finished in sixth place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.57.

Freshman Jasmine Williams took third in the 200 meters with a time of 24.48, while junior LaJada Baldwin placed second in the 400 meters with a time of 52.98. Sofie Persson raced to the fourth-fastest time in school history in the 400 meters with a time of 53.41 en route to a third place finish.

Middle distance runner Anne Threlkeld finished in third place in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:56.45, while Logan Waites placed second in the 5000 meters following her time of 17:42.82.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Lor'Rena De'Jurnett, Kristin Bridges, Williams and Baldwin finished in third place with a time of 44.96. The 4x400 meter relay team of Bridges, Baldwin, Sofia Hellberg-Jonsen and Persson recorded the fourth-fastest time in school history with a mark of 3:36.95 en route to a sixth place finish.

Freshman Brittany Bozeman finished in fourth place in the long jump with a distance of 18-11.75, while sophomore Aria Gaines placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 40-05.00.

Senior Davina Orieukwu took third in the shot put with a distance of 52-00.00 before placing fifth in the discus throw with a mark of 156-09.00 to mark the second-furthest mark in school history.

Junior Juliana Smith placed fourth in the hammer throw with distance of 181-11.00, while freshman Neal Tisher placed fourth in the pole vault with a height of 12-01.15.

Ole Miss returns to action April 22 when the Rebels travel to Des Moines, Iowa to take part in the historic Drake Relays.
