Men's Tennis Falls To No. 3 Tennessee

4/2/2010 | Men's Tennis

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The No. 16 nationally ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team ran into one of the nation's top teams Friday, falling to No. 3 Tennessee at the UT Varsity Courts.

With the loss, the Rebels fell to 13-4 overall and 4-3 in the SEC, while Tennessee improved to 19-1 and 7-0.

Ole Miss was right there in the doubles, losing at 1 and 3 by a score of 8-6. Marcel and Chris Thiemann defeated the nation's No. 4 team of Boris Conkic and Rhyne Williams, 8-6 at No. 2. The Thiemann's ended the UT duo's 16-match winning streak, and are now 14-3 and 6-1 in the SEC.

With Adrian Forberg Skogeng out of the lineup, Tennessee picked up quick singles wins at Nos. 6, 5 and 1 to end a six-match losing streak to the Rebels.

"It wasn't as bad as the score indicates," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "Tucker and Jonas both had close sets, and we were right there in doubles. Tennessee is not just a good team, they're a great team. Hopefully we can rebound for another tough match on Sunday against Georgia."
