4/22/2010 | Softball

OXFORD, Miss. - After a five-game road swing, the Ole Miss Rebel softball team will return home this weekend to host SEC-West rival Auburn in a three-game set at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. The Rebels and the Tigers will tangle in a double header beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday and conclude the series at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Saturday's first game will be televised nationally by ESPNU with Cara Capuano handling play-by-play and former All-American Michelle Smith serving as game analyst. The game will also be part of ESPNU's Campus Connection where Ole Miss students will serve along side ESPN personnel to help with the production and announcing of the game. Sunday's series finale will be televised by Fox Sports Net at 1 p.m.

The Rebels will also host "Kids Take Over The Ballpark Day" Sunday to support the Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis. Children aged 5-12 are encouraged to sign up for a variety of jobs at the ballpark and to bring donations for the children of Le Bonheur aged infant to adolescent.

Kids will fill a variety of jobs during the Rebels' game versus the Tigers. Positions include bat boy or girl, cheerleader, field crew, public address, water manager and many more.

Volunteers will be honored before the game and will join the Rebels on the field for the national anthem. Le Bonheur will have an ambulance on site that kids will be able to tour and the Ole Miss cheerleaders will also be on hand for face painting. Children will also receive an autographed team photo and free Papa John's pizza after the game. The Rebels will also hold a skills clinic following the game, so volunteers should bring a glove.

Donations sought for Le Bonheur include blankets, car seats and rattles for infants, blocks, crayons, puzzles and stuffed animals for preschool aged, action figures, books, dolls and games for school aged children and diaries, magazines, and video games for adolescents. All donated items should be new and unopened due to health concerns and will be used for birthday and holiday parties or in bedside and recreation areas.

For more information or to sign up for a "Kids Take Over The Ballpark" position please contact Connie Braseth in Rebel Sports Marketing at 662-915-7554 or cbraseth@olemiss.edu.

Auburn heads to Oxford after losing both games of a mid-week double header to Mississippi State on Wednesday. The Tigers enter the weekend with a 23-22 overall record and a 6-16 mark in the SEC. Sophomore Amber Harrison leads Auburn with a .315 batting average and 28 RBI, while junior Kyndall White has a team-best seven homers. In the circle, Anna Thompson has posted a team-best 13-8 record with a 1.64 ERA and 242 strikeouts in 141.0 innings.

The Tigers lead the all-time series 30-13 over Ole Miss and have won the last seven matchups. The Rebels last posted a win over Auburn in 2007 when they took two-of-three from the Tigers in Auburn.
