OXFORD, Miss. - Freshman second baseman Alex Yarbrough has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for his performance this past week, the league office announced on Monday.

Yarbrough came up with big plays to help lead the Rebels to an undefeated week that included a win over Southern Miss and a sweep of fifth-ranked LSU over the weekend to earn the weekly honor for the second time this season.

Yarbrough was also named SEC Freshman of the Week the week of March 29 after helping the Rebels to a pair of midweek wins over Southern Miss and Saint Louis to go along with a series win over No. 2 Florida.

This past weekend, Yarbrough came up with a pair of big hits as he hit the game-winner in the 11th inning of game two of a doubleheader to give the Rebels a 9-8 win over No. 5 LSU. The RBI single came with two outs and a full count off LSU ace closer Matty Ott.

A day later, the freshman again came up big with his first career home run. The solo shot tied the game at six and put Ole Miss in position to claim the series sweep with a walk-off hit from Kevin Mort in the ninth.

For the week, Yarbrough hit .353 with a double and a home run. He posted a pair of multiple-hit games to pull his season total to 14.

The Rebels return to action this week with a pair of midweek games before hitting the road to take on Mississippi State in a three-game series. Ole Miss will host Murray State on Tuesday night and UT-Martin on Wednesday night. Both games are set for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch.
