ATHENS, Ga. -- Ole Miss women's tennis sophomore Kristi Boxx was named to the SEC Women's Tennis Championship All-Tournament Team as announced Sunday after the championship match.
Boxx, native of Grenada, Miss., went 3-0 in singles and doubles to help lead second-seeded Ole Miss to the semifinals for the second year in a row. She clinched the doubles on Friday, which proved huge in the Rebels' 4-2 win over Arkansas. She also was leading in the third set of her match against Anouk Tigu at No.1 singles, when Ole Miss clinched.
In the semifinal match versus Tennessee, Boxx, ranked No. 62 in the nation, rallied to defeat ninth-ranked Caitlin Whoriskey to even the match at two apiece. She also teamed with Karen Nijssen to post an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles against 11th-ranked Whoriskey and Maria Sorbello. The Rebels came up just short of advancing to the final, dropping the match 4-3.
The Rebels (15-5), who will be making their second consecutive NCAA appearance, are hoping to be one of 16 teams hosting an NCAA Regional. The 64-team bracket and host sites will be announced May 4 on ESPNews.
