4/27/2010 | Volleyball
Morgan has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete with the Rebels beginning in the fall of 2010, while Philpot will be transferring to Ole Miss and will be eligible to compete this fall.
"We're excited about the addition of both Kara and Amanda to our program," Getzin said. "Kara is a Southeastern Conference quality athlete and we look for her to push to break into the lineup early in her career. Amanda has competed at a high level of experience in club volleyball and with her team in the NAIA National Championship finals. She has tremendous leadership skills that will help us."
Morgan signs with the Rebels out of Pickens High School in Pickens, S.C., where she lettered four years as an outside hitter. For her career, Morgan tallied 1,392 kills and 419 blocks while coming up with 754 digs and 131 service aces. In her four year career as a starter, she helped lead her high school to the State Championship twice (2006, 2008) and posted a runner-up finish in the State Championship in 2007.
A four-time All-State selection, the 6-0 athlete was also named the High School Sports Report Class 3A Player of the Year as a junior. She was also tabbed by PrepVolleyball.com as one of the top freshman in the country in 2006 and again tabbed as one of the top high school sophomores in 2007.
A multiple-sport athlete, Morgan also lettered four years in basketball - averaging a double-double for her career with almost 15 points and 10 rebounds a game and was named an All-Region selection four times and an All-State selection as a senior. Morgan also lettered five years in softball at shortstop.
Philpot comes to the Rebels after playing her freshman season at Georgetown College in Kentucky, where she helped lead the Tigers to a 45-4 record and a runner-up finish at the NAIA National Championship Tournament in 2009. Georgetown College also claimed the Mid-South Conference Championship with a 14-0 record.
Her freshman season, the 5-8 setter tallied 1,676 assists and hit .296 with 200 kills and tallied 437 digs on the year.
A Cincinnati, Ohio, native, Philpot helped lead Mother of Mercy High School to a state championship in 2007 and earned several honors as she was selected to the SWOVBCA All-District Team, the Division I All-City second team and the All-Girl's Greater Cincinnati League first team.
