4/30/2010 | Track and Field

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss track and field team will host the second and final home meet of the season when the Rebels take part in the Mississippi Open Saturday from the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex.

Competition begins at 10 a.m. with the women's hammer throw and the women's javelin throw. Admission to this year's Mississippi Open will be free of charge.

Ole Miss student-athletes will be collecting shoes for underprivileged youth in Haiti and Kenya Saturday during the meet. Fans are asked to donate gently used running shoes, cleats and spikes as part of the "Rebel Reruns" program. Smaller sizes are needed, but all shoes are greatly appreciated. Visiting track teams have also been asked to bring shoes to the meet.

Several teams from around the region are expected to compete this weekend, including Memphis, Mississippi State, Southern Miss and Tulane.

"We are really excited to host another meet here on campus," Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker said. "This is the last home meet for a fine group of seniors, and we hope we can have a good crowd to watch them finish their career at Ole Miss. This is also a good tune-up meet for our SEC preparations. We just hope the weather will hold off and allow us to have a great meet."
