Ole Miss Travels To Ridgeland To Face Southern Miss
4/5/2010 | Softball
OXFORD, Miss. - After taking a pair of games from in-state foe Alcorn State last week, the Ole Miss Rebels will travel to Ridgeland, Miss. on Tuesday to face the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss in a neutral-site game. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland. Tickets prices are $5 and free to children 8-and-under and will be available at the gate.
The Rebels knocked off Alcorn State in a double header last Wednesday before taking the weekend off. Sophomore Cali Overbeck led Ole Miss at the plate belting two home runs in the Rebels win in game one over Alcorn. It was her first career two-homer game and the first by a Rebel since Lauren Grill in 2009.
Grill continues to lead the Rebels at the plate hitting a team-best .464. Already having broken the Ole Miss hits and walks records this season, Grill scored three runs on Wednesday to tie the Rebel career record with 124 runs scored and sits just six RBI behind DeDe Justice's career record of 133.
Ole Miss leads Southern Miss 10-9 in the all-time series, but the Golden Eagles have won three of the last four meetings. Tuesday's game in Ridgeland will be the second neutral-site game between the two state schools. The Rebels won last year's game 7-3 at Freedom Ridge Park.
Southern Miss enters the matchup with a 14-17 overall mark and is led by junior Megan Hill, who is batting a team-best .355 with eight home runs on the season. Gabby Luciani paces USM in the circle with a 5-6 record and a 2.89 ERA on the season.
