Rebels In Shootout For BancorpSouth Title
4/5/2010 | Men's Golf
MADISON, Miss. -- The Ole Miss men's golf team shot a 10-under par 566 on the first day of the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate Monday at Reunion Golf and Country Club and is in a shootout for the title.
The Rebels will be paired with Florida and North Florida in the final round Tuesday, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Conditions were great for scoring on day one, with sunny skies and warm temperatures, and all three schools at the top were able to take advantage it.
Florida shot a 15-under 561 led by Tim McKenney's opening round 63, a tournament record. His teammate, Tyson Alexander, fired a 64 in the first round. They both shot 71 in the second round. McKenney (134) leads Alexander (135) by one.
Ole Miss freshman Pete Kellermann turned in an outstanding performance, carding a 5-under 68-71-139 and is in third, five back of McKenney.
Sophomore Joe David shot 71-72-143 and is tied for 11th. Local favorite Jonathan Randolph finished at even par for the day and is tied for 15th with teammate Tom Brown, who turned in a 74-70-144. Billy Brozovich is tied for 22nd at 70-75-145.
"I was really proud of our players today," head coach Ernest Ross said. "Pete Kellermann in particular, as a true freshman, did a great job. All five of our players are in the top 22. It looks like it's going to be a real dog fight tomorrow for the title."
Other Mississippi schools competing, Southern Mississippi is tied for 5th at 580, and Mississippi State and Jackson State are 14th and 15th, respectively.
