Spring Practice Report 04.05

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Rebel football team held its seventh practice of the spring on Monday under warm and pleasant conditions on practice fields adjacent to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt was pleased with how his team responded after taking the weekend off.
"I thought they responded really well," he said. "It was good to have a lot of film to watch. The defense was impressive. You can really tell the experience in the defensive line."
After watching film of Friday's scrimmage Nutt said the Rebels are improving on offense, but need to cut down on mistakes.
"Offensively, we have a ways to go, but you have to love the steps we keep taking. The quarterbacks are getting better and the receivers are getting better. We just had too many missed assignments and that happens when you are in as many third down situations as we were. They are seeing ghosts and different things that they aren't ready for yet. They are getting better; they just have to keep working."
Rishaw Johnson has returned to the Rebel squad this spring and with fellow junior Bradley Sowell make up two of Ole Miss' most experienced offensive linemen.
"I've been really proud of Rishaw," Nutt said. "He has done an excellent job of working hard. Between him and Bradley Sowell that is two older guys that we are going to lean on. Bradley had a really good scrimmage. He really stood out on film. I think he has really stepped up for us."
At running back, Nutt said he liked how junior Enrique Davis has responded this spring on the practice fields and in the weight room.
"With his work ethic and attitude, we expect really big things from him," Nutt said. "I think he is lighter and I know he has trained really hard."
The Rebels will hit the practice fields again on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Spring practices are open to the public, and times and locations will be updated daily on OleMissSports.com and twitter.com/OleMissNow.
Spring drills will conclude with the annual Grove Bowl, April 17 at 1 p.m. at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Other events surrounding the weekend include the Chucky Mullins Courage Award Banquet April 15 at 7 p.m., and the Grove Stage program with Dexter McCluster the morning of the Grove Bowl at 11 a.m.
