OXFORD, Miss. - After having last weekend off from conference play, the Ole Miss Rebel softball team will welcome the No.12 nationally-ranked Georgia Bulldogs to Oxford for a three-game SEC series beginning on Saturday at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
The Rebels (21-15, 5-7 SEC) and the Dogs (28-8, 6-6 SEC) will play a double header on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. and will conclude the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. All three games of the series will be available to subscribers of RebelVision. Fans at Saturday's first game will be treated to free chicken tenders from Bofield's.
Ole Miss has won three straight game including Tuesday's win over in-state rival Southern Miss in Ridgeland. Senior Lauren Grill continues to lead the Rebels with a .450 batting average. Already the Ole Miss career leader in hits and walks, Grill needs just one more run scored and seven more RBI to break the school records in both those categories. In the circle, junior Brittany Barnhill leads the Rebels with an 8-4 record and 94 strikeouts, while Lindsey Perry has posted a team-low 2.87 ERA this season.
Georgia enters the weekend with 27-8 overall record and a 6-6 mark in SEC play. The Bulldogs knocked off No. 6 Georgia Tech on Wednesday after dropping two-of-three to Arkansas last weekend. Junior Kristyn Sandberg leads UGA with a .407 batting average, while Ashley Razey paces the squad with 10 home runs. In circle, sophomore Erin Arevalo has posted a team-best 15-5 record with a team-low 2.25 ERA.
The Rebels trail Georgia 26-7 in the all-time series and dropped a three-game series to the Bulldogs a year ago in Athens. The last win for Ole Miss over UGA came in 2003.
