Grill Earns All-SEC Honors

5/12/2010 | Softball

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss senior Lauren Grill was named to the Southeastern Conference softball coaches' All-SEC second team, the league office announced on Wednesday. Grill, a second-team selection a year ago, is the first player in school history to earn All-SEC honors three times in her career.

A 2008 first team All-America pick by Louisville Slugger, Grill led the Rebels with a .444 batting average, eight home runs, 36 RBI and a .715 slugging percentage in 2010. Her .571 on-base percentage this season is the fourth-best mark in SEC history, while her 44 career homers are tied for sixth best in league history. In conference play, Grill finished the season third in the SEC in walks (25), fourth in on-base percentage (.560) and eighth in batting (.394).

"It is quite the compliment to Lauren that she has earned All-SEC honors three times in a league as competitive as this one," said Ole Miss head coach Missy Dickerson. "It shows what a truly special player she has been in her four years at Ole Miss."

The Tualatin, Ore., native literally rewrote the Ole Miss record book during her four seasons as a Rebel. Grill owns career records in hits, runs, RBI, walks and total bases, and is the Ole Miss career leader in batting average, on-base and slugging percentage. She also ranks second in doubles, triples and home runs. In addition, Grill holds single-season Ole Miss marks for hits, runs, walks, total bases, batting average, slugging and on-base percentage.

The Rebels will close out the 2010 regular season with a doubleheader against Alcorn State this Friday at 2 p.m. at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. The twin bill against the Braves replaces two games the Rebels lost to rain earlier this season.
