Four Rebels Reach Finals At SEC Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Ole Miss hurdlers Sofie Persson, Jasmine Dacus, Carson Blanks and Lee Ellis Moore each qualified for the finals of the 400 meter hurdles to highlight competition for the Rebels on the second day of the SEC Championships.
Persson placed second in the 400 meter hurdle preliminaries and qualified for the finals with a time of 58.46, while Dacus also reached the finals with a time of 59.36 en route to a seventh place finish to post the fourth-fastest time in school history.
Moore took third place in the 400 meter prelims and reached the finals with a time of 50.95 before Blanks crossed the finish line in fifth place following his time of 52.33.
Distance runner Logan Waites recorded the second-fastest time in school history in the 10000 meters with a time of 36:58.03 en route to a ninth place finish.
Barnabas Kirui placed third in the 10000 meters with a time of 29:40.13 to pick up six points for the Rebels. His finish helped put the men's team in seventh place after day two of the championships.
In field events, freshman Jazmin Miller finished in ninth place in the hammer throw and turned in the fifth-longest mark in history with a distance of 168-06.00.
Fellow freshman Brittany Bozeman posted a seventh place finish in the heptathlon and tallied two points after collecting a total of 5,070 points, which also marked the third-most points in school history.
Bozeman recorded a distance of 20-10.50 in the long jump of the heptathlon to mark a new SEC record in the event within the heptathlon.
Ole Miss continues competition at the SEC Championships Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
