OXFORD, Miss. - Junior left-hander Drew Pomeranz has been named one of three finalists for the 2010 Cellular South Ferriss Trophy, the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame announced on Monday.

The Ferriss Trophy is named after former Delta State head coach Boo Ferriss, who is a member of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, Delta State and Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame. It is awarded annually to the top college baseball player in the state of Mississippi.

The three finalists this season are Pomeranz, junior right-hander Todd McInnis of Southern Miss and senior first baseman Connor Powers of Mississippi State.

The award will be presented on Monday, May 24, 2010 at the Bologna Performing Arts Center on the campus of Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss., at 6:30 p.m. There will be a reception preceding the formal awards program at 5:30.

Previous winners of the Ferriss Trophy from Ole Miss include Stephen Head (2004), Brian Pettway (2005) and Scott Bittle (2008).

This season, Pomeranz has been a top performer for the Rebels and on a national level. The southpaw has posted a 7-1 record on the year and leads the Southeastern Conference in strikeouts (121), ERA (2.15) and opposing batting average (.176). The junior was named the Midseason Player and Pitcher of the Year by Baseball America and has been a consistent mention as one of the projected top picks in the upcoming MLB Draft.

His 121 strikeouts is fifth on the single-season strikeout list at Ole Miss and puts the left-hander at 326 strikeouts for his career - seven shy of setting a new career mark of 333 strikeouts. Lance Lynn is the current career strikeout leader with 332 in his career from 2006-2008.

Pomeranz and the Rebels will take the field for a three-game series in the regular-season finale this weekend when Ole Miss hosts Auburn beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field with a chance at the SEC Western Division title on the line.
