THIS WEEK FOR OLE MISS:

Ole Miss will continues to play on the road after advancing to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament last weekend when the Rebels head to the NCAA Regional in Charlottesville, Va. Ole Miss enters the regional as the two seed and will face third-seeded St. John's on the opening day of the weekend event. The Rebels will then face either top-seeded - and national fifth-seed Virginia - or Virginia Commonwealth University in the second day of the NCAA Regional.

NOTING POMERANZ:
Junior left-hander Drew Pomeranz enters the NCAA Regional slated to start against St. John's in the opening game. The SEC Pitcher of the Year, Pomeranz defeated No. 7 South Carolina in the SEC Tournament opening round and set the career strikeout mark at Ole Miss with 339 strikeouts for his career. The southpaw leads the league in strikeouts (134), earned run average (2.21) and in opposing batting average (.190) and was named a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award earlier this week.

REBELS IN THE RANKINGS:
For the sixth straight season Ole Miss opened the year ranked in the preseason polls. Currently, the Rebels are ranked as high as 22nd (Collegiate Baseball) and appear in the rankings of three of the five major college baseball polls. The Rebels were ranked 11th nationally the week of March 28-April 4 before dropping a weekend series to Tennessee - the highest ranking of the season for the Rebels. Ole Miss matched that ranking the week of May 3 before falling to ninth-ranked Arkansas in a weekend series.

A LOOK AT ST. JOHN'S:
The Red Storm of St. John's enter the NCAA Regional with an overall record of 40-18 and are coming off a sweep of the Big East Tournament on the way to the Tournament title. The Red Storm is batting .327 as a team and are led by Jeremy Baltz at the plate with a .393 average, 20 home runs and 74 RBI. The St. John's pitching staff holds a 5.05 ERA and have posted 425 strikeouts while walking 296 batters on the year. Right-hander Kyle Hansen leads the pitching staff with an 8-1 record and a 3.09 ERA while posting 81 strikeouts and 36 walks on the season. Opponents are hitting .208 against him this year.

REBELS VS. ST. JOHN'S:
Ole Mis and St. John's have never faced each other on the baseball diamond.

A LOOK AT VIRGINIA:
The Cavaliers of Virginia enter the NCAA Regional as the host team and the fifth-seed nationally with a record of 47-11 and the ACC regular season crown. Virginia bats at a .333 clip and is led at the plate by Keith Werman who is hitting .444 on the year. Steven Proscia leads the team with 10 home runs and 62 RBI. The Cavs' pitching staff holds a 3.67 ERA and is led by Danny Hulzen with a 9-1 record and a 2.43 ERA on the season. Hulzen has posted 111 strikeouts and allowed only 20 walks with a .184 batting average against.

REBELS VS. VIRGINIA:
Ole Miss and Virginia have faced-off five times in the history of the two programs with the Rebels trailing 2-3 in the all-time series. The Cavaliers and Rebels met last season in the NCAA Super Regional with Virginia claiming a 2-1 series win.

A LOOK AT VCU:
The Rams of VCU enter the Regional with a 34-24-1 record on the year and claimed the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament title last week. VCU is batting .309 as a team and is led by Joe Van Meter with a .433 average, 10 home runs and 72 RBI. The Rams pitching staff holds a 5.15 ERA and is led by Seth Cutler-Voltz with an 8-3 record and a 3.20 ERA. He has struck out 65 and walked 30 on the season with a .246 batting average against.

REBELS IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT:

UM has had success in the Tournament and is making its eighth consecutive NCAA Regional appearance. The Rebs have advanced to four College World Series and have made 16 NCAA Regional appearances, claiming 8 NCAA Regional Championships.
