OXFORD, Miss. - Meredith Crane has been hired as an assistant cross country and track coach at Ole Miss, head coach Joe Walker announced Monday.
Crane's primary emphasis will be coaching the Rebels' distance runners and serving as assistant recruiting coordinator.
"We are excited to have Meredith join our staff," Walker said. "We feel like her experiences as an elite runner as well as her coaching experience in the Pac-10, which is a very strong distance conference, will be a great addition to our program."
After a few years of coaching at the high school level, Crane spent last season as a volunteer assistant coach at Oregon State. While there, she saw multiple school records broken, two of which were by Sandra Martinez, who Crane also coached to school records and top state finishes while at her alma mater, Davis High School in Yakima, Wash.
In addition to Martinez's school records, Crane also guided multiple Oregon State athletes to career-best marks and NCAA performances.
Crane also coached at East Valley (Yakima, Wash.) High School, where she led the men's cross country team to a state championship appearance, while seeing two female freshmen qualify for the state meet.
As a Division I student-athlete, Crane also achieved a great deal of success. As a true freshman at Texas A&M, she qualified individually for the NCAA Cross Country Championships, marking the first time in school history that had happened. She finished 13th at the Big 12 Conference Championships and ninth at the NCAA South Central Regional, helping her team to a third-place finish as a rookie.
She transferred to Seattle Pacific University and went on to finish second at the conference cross country meet, fifth at the regional meet and again qualified individually for the NCAA Championships.
Crane received her bachelor's degree in exercise physiology from Central Washington University. She is a certified personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine.
