OXFORD, Miss. -- On the eve of the first day of classes, the Ole Miss football team held a short practice Sunday to review the highs and lows from Saturday's big scrimmage, which drew 9,000 fans to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

The Rebels trained for an hour in helmets and shorts in Sunday evening's humidity on the practice fields.

"We did some corrections from yesterday's scrimmage," said Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt. "It was very encouraging. We did some good things, we did some bad things. We worked hard on some special teams play, and we got some conditioning in today."

After seeing the film, Nutt said there were a handful of freshmen that showed some potential, including Martez Eastland, Jared Duke, Vincent Sanders and Brishen Mathews.

"Brishen Mathews is really coming on," Nutt said. " He is working his way into the second team."

After two weeks of hard practices, the Ole Miss players now shift their focus to the classroom, as the fall semester begins Monday.

"We give them tomorrow off for the first day of school," said Nutt. "We make sure everybody knows where to go to class, has a good day as a student and then we'll resume Tuesday."

The University's incoming student class was officially welcomed to campus Sunday with the "Freshmen Picnic," and after football practice, Nutt rushed over to The Grove to join in the festivities with a brief pep talk for the freshmen.

The Rebels open the 2010 season against Jacksonville State, Sept. 4 at 2:30 p.m., and season tickets are available on the OleMissSports.com ticket site or by calling 1-888-732-8587.
