OXFORD, Miss. -- With the season opener one week away, the Ole Miss Rebels practiced the logistics of gameday followed by a short scrimmage in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium Saturday morning.
The dress rehearsal broke down all of the basics of pre-game, including dressing, getting taped and stretching in the lockerroom. The team worked from a standard gameday timing sheet and practiced lockerroom etiquette and fulfilling pre-game duties and assignments once on the field.
The 80-play scrimmage was game-scripted, and players worked on sideline positions and substitutions while also focusing on the opponent lined up across from them.
"It's good to always do a rehearsal game," said Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt. "We have to do better with the clock management and substitutions.
"It's getting close and we have to get better as a team. We have one more week to do it."
The Jacksonville State game is set for a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff next Saturday, and season tickets are nearing 45,000 in sales, as announced Friday. A limited number of tickets remains, and fans are encouraged to act now by visiting the OleMissSports.com ticket site or calling 662-915-7167 or 1-888-732-8587 (in state).
Nutt and the Rebel football team will join the marching band, spirit groups and special guests for a pep rally on Thursday. The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the south endzone of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and the public should enter through Gates 1-4 and Gate 31. Fan seating for the pep rally will be in sections S3 through S9.
