Rebel Netters Win Eight Matches At Duke And Memphis

CARY, N.C. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team won five of eight matches, including all four of its doubles matches on Friday at the Duke Fab Four Invite at the Cary Tennis Park. The Rebels also picked up three wins at the Memphis Invitational.
The day began with the doubles. Juniors Kristi Boxx and Abby Guthrie, ranked No. 15 in the nation, defeated Jocelyn Friend and Zoe De Bruycker of North Carolina in the first round of Flight B doubles. In the semifinals, the Rebel pair downed Rachael White and Allison Falkin of Illinois 8-3. They will face Mary Anne Macfarlane and Antonio Foehse in the final. This marks the second week in a row for the duo to be in the finals of an event.
In Flight C doubles, 27th-ranked Connor Vogel and Gabby Rangel shut out Haley Hemm and Laura Slater of North Carolina, 8-0. In the semifinals Vogel and Rangel downed Brett Ellen Keller and Rachel Saiontz (Purdue) 8-3. The Reb duo will meet Tessa Lyons and Jelena Durisic of North Carolina in the final.
In singles, Boxx, ranked No. 20 nationally, was the lone winner, blanking Purdue's Bhavani Tirumurti 6-0, 6-0. The top seed in Flight C, Boxx will face Rachel Kahan of Duke in the second round.
In Memphis, senior Laura van de Stroet and freshman Vivian Vlaar both won their first round matches in singles. Van de Stroet downed Kate Chybowski (Evansville) 6-1, 6-2, and Vlaar shut out Dora Kotsiou, also of Evansville, 6-0, 6-0.
The two teamed up in doubles to go 1-1. After beating a team from Arkansas State, they lost to Tulane in the semifinals.
