Women's Tennis Kicks Off Season In Memphis

OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 18 nationally ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team will kick off the 2011 season this weekend at the Memphis Winter Invitational at the Racquet Club of Memphis.
The Rebels will compete against host Memphis, BYU and Missouri Friday, Saturday and Sunday in matches that will count towards individual records, but not team records.
Friday's action begins with doubles against Memphis at 10:30 a.m., followed by singles versus BYU at 12 p.m. On Saturday, the Rebels will match up against BYU in doubles at 12 p.m., Missouri in singles at 2 p.m. and Memphis in singles at 7:30 p.m. Ole Miss will conclude action on Sunday with singles against Missouri at 8:30 a.m.
"Even though it's really early in the season, it will definitely benefit us to get some matches in as we prepare for our upcoming dual matches," head coach Mark Beyers said. "It's a good field, and we are definitely excited about seeing the girls keep score again. In practice there is only so much you can do. We would love for any Ole Miss fans in the Memphis area to come out and watch us play."
The Rebels return five of the top six from last year's SEC West Champion and NCAA Sweet Sixteen team, including All-American Kristi Boxx (Grenada, Miss.) and senior All-SEC honorees Connor Vogel (Germantown, Tenn.) and Laura van de Stroet. Also back from last year's team are juniors Abby Guthrie and Gabby Rangel. The Rebels added Belgium native Vivian Vlaar in the fall, and Norwegian standout Caroline Rohde-Moe, joined the team this spring.
Admission to the tournament this weekend is free.
